October Birthstone: Opal Metaphysical and Physical Properties

I've always been fascinated by birthstones, but the past few months I have focused on creating birthstone jewelry. It's been such a fun experience! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you might have noticed the influx of birthstone jewelry on my page as a result.

I’m committed to educating my customers about their birthstones, and this week I’m introducing the October birthstone, or Libra birthstone, which is Opal.

Libra Traits

Libra is the flower-child of the zodiac sign, oriented toward peace and happiness in all situations. Their desire for harmony can result in wishy-washiness or stifled expression in the unaware Libra. Libra’s native element is air, filling them with thoughts and notions. Libras are thoughtful, in every sense of the word.

Physical Characteristics of Opal

Opal is a dazzling, holographic gem. It is a unique mineral formed by water running through passages in rock. This gem comes in numerous varieties defined by their unique and beautiful patterns of all colors. It has all the luster of a rainbow.

Opal Benefits for Libra

Opal is said to lift spirits and ease the mind, which is helpful for Libra who can get bogged down with concerns about equality, or flatten themselves to make life easier for others.

The “play of color” in Opals is caused by the diffraction of light. It is thought to be able to diffract energy as well, protecting the wearer from the “evil eye”. This splay of light and energy is said to be able to display one’s inner world in detail and truth, like a spectrum. Analytical and thoughtful Libra may enjoy the deep analysis enabled by this.

Simply put, Opal is gorgeous. For the Libra who wants to look on the bright side of things, Opal is a constant reminder of the beauty in life.
